Wren House has been designed to touch the earth lightly.
The house sits entirely above ground on a waffle pod slab, with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) making up the walls & roof structure. Double glazing & a combination of sheet metal cladding & fibre cement cladding complete the building envelope.
We employ solar panels on the roof and carport, rainwater harvesting and a worm farm septic system.
The rear part of the site has been sculpted using swales and permaculture to allow passive retention of water on the site. This enables natural irrigation of the many native plants and trees added to the landscape.
Utmost care has been taken to use as little space as possible for the dwelling, in order to return the landscape back to the birds, insects and wildlife that originally occupied the area.
Wren House gets its name from the many wrens that visit the site.
